July is officially the start of the hottest days on record in Texas and it is also around the time I start one of my ritual detox routines for the year. I wanted to kick off this July with a 5 part series of detox recipes for your inner and outer beauty that you can try this summer.

La La La Lavender

I have spoken about joints and spices in the past and this week I wanted to focus using calming Lavender in anti-inflammatory care kit. I am a firm believer in attracting what I need when I need it and knowing that everything that happens is for my own good. So it did not surprise me when my husband spotted a tiny little sign along the windy, hilly, farm roads to visit the Bluebonnet Lavender Farm on the way to Walla Walla, Washington. I said “GO” and we made our way to a quaint little farm with several varietals of lavender blooms. The area was entirely too picturesque and quiet so I took a few minutes to record a short meditation and savor the aroma of fresh lavender all around me. I also purchased some culinary lavender and walked away with their lemonade recipe which has been amazing at calming down my joints after the last few months of travel and dry skin from climate changes.

I think lavender is one of the very first essential oils I have ever bought and always have on hand. It is widely known for having endless uses and benefits in both relaxation and healing. It is an antiseptic and anti-inflammatory flower providing relief from itchy bug-bites, minor cuts and burns, acting as anti-fungal, and a host of other skin and beauty benefits.

It has been my go to for sinus related allergies, but it never dawned on me that it’s anti-inflammatory properties would benefit joint issues too. Inflammation affects the body on a cellular level, manifesting as redness, swelling, heat, pain, and in my case dry skin. Both essential oils and the flowers contain the anti-inflammatory agents that can aid in providing relief from these acute symptoms. This month, I decided to try drinking lavender lemonade to infuse my detox diet with some extra fun.

Lavender Lemonade Detox

Lavender Lemonade is amazing if you are feeling overheated from being outdoors, inflamed, suffer from headaches, or feeling out of sorts due to stress. It is also an easy way to introduce a little detox into your daily or weekly routine. Make a batch and sip on it throughout the day. You can add mint, basil and any number of other ingredients to make this easy recipe a little more fancy.

Mindful Moment

If you have lavender essential oil, place a few drops in your palms then rub your hands together and inhale. Apply the oil to the back of your neck or your collarbone area to further enjoy this little meditation moment.
